Woodstock - Three Days of Peace and Music
(1994)

This is the Woodstock box set you should normally start with. It contains four CDs and a big booklet with some interesting photos. The music was originally released on Woodstock I and Woodstock II and was re-issued as this box set on Woodstock's 25th anniversary.

It's really a beautiful package and four CDs may be enough for most of the people but it also has its weaknesses. As the movie captures interviews, stage comments and the crowd in general you can't find something like that on the discs. The music is distracted from the festival.

Recording Notes[]

The following four songs on this compilation weren't recorded in Woodstock at all: "Blood Of The Sun" and "Theme for an Imaginary Western" from Mountain, "Coming into Los Angeles" by Arlo Guthrie and "Sea Of Madness" from Crosby, Stills & Nash (and Young). This was discovered by song analysis and comparison of recordings[1].
